ABOUT

Multicultural Alliance

OUR MISSION

The Multicultural Alliance establishes a respectful platform to explore the evolving conceptions of multiculturalism through the practice of mindful listening, conscious dialogue, and the inclusion of diverse perspectives.

We encourage the group to learn from and reflect on diverse experiences in order to positively enhance our understandings of multiculturalism, identity, and community.

OUR VISION

The coming together of knowledge, shared practices, diverse perspectives, multicultural cultural resources in a respectful, supportive, and mindful environment will promote personal and social transformation within the classroom and community.

OUR VALUES

  1. We are building an equitable community. This includes working together, honoring diversity, establishing an openness to new information, and being respectful of each others’ individuality and culture. Be open-minded to other experiences, ideas, and perspectives.

  2. There is no tolerance for discriminatory or prejudiced behavior (inside or outside the alliance). If you are offended by one of your peers’ comments or actions, respectfully express yourself with the intent to educate and correct them.

  3. If you offend someone and are corrected, be respectful and apologize. It is important that we pay attention to our peers and that we allow them to explain their viewpoint before we refute them.

  4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in order to understand. There is no such thing as a “dumb” question, BUT there are disrespectful questions. Make sure you know the difference, and when you know better, do better.

  5. “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas”
